Stable Diffusion Character Counter
Stable Diffusion's CLIP text encoder processes prompts in ~75-token chunks. Check your prompt length and token estimate here before generating.
How the Stable Diffusion Counter works
Paste your prompt
Type or paste your AI prompt into the box — nothing is uploaded, it all stays in your browser.
Pick your AI model
Switch the profile tab to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, FLUX or Sora for model-specific guidance.
Copy or share when ready
Copy your prompt to the clipboard or share it directly once the length and guidance look right.
About this tool
Classic Stable Diffusion models (SD 1.5, SDXL) use a CLIP text encoder that was trained on prompt chunks of about 75 tokens each. Many web UIs like Automatic1111 or ComfyUI automatically chain multiple 75-token chunks for longer prompts, but tokens in the first chunk are generally understood to carry the most direct weight.
This counter estimates your prompt's token count so you can see roughly how many CLIP chunks your prompt will span, and gives guidance on keeping your most important subject and style keywords early in the prompt.
If you're using a newer Stable Diffusion 3 or similar model with a different text encoder, treat this as a general guide rather than an exact technical limit for your specific model version.
Frequently asked questions
What is the CLIP token limit in Stable Diffusion?
The classic CLIP text encoder used in SD 1.5 and SDXL processes prompts in chunks of about 75 tokens each.
Can I use longer prompts in Stable Diffusion?
Most modern UIs automatically chain additional 75-token chunks for longer prompts, though front-loading your key details is still recommended for best results.
