About this tool
Claude is built for long-context work — document analysis, large codebases, and extended conversations — with a context window around 200,000 tokens, equivalent to roughly 150,000 words or over 600,000 characters.
For most everyday prompts that limit is nowhere close to being an issue, but if you're pasting in long documents, transcripts or codebases alongside your instructions, this counter helps you keep track of your running total.
Remember that the context window is shared across your entire conversation, not just your first message, so long back-and-forth threads with large pasted content can add up over time.
